EP123 DIY Stone Bench

This DIY stone bench was made out of 2” thick slabs of bluestone that was cut with a standard circular saw. For more information go to HomeMade-Modern.com

I bought these 2" thick slabs of bluestone from my local stone yard that are 1-foot by 5-feet. I put a 7" diameter diamond blade on my 7 1/4" circular saw to cut the stone. This project took about 3 hours to make and cost about $120.

TOOLS:

INSTRUCTIONS:

HomeMade ModernSTEP 1: Cut the stone.
I used a circular saw and a 7" diamond blade to cut the stone. It made a lot of dust and I had to go slow but the cuts came out nice and clean. I cut two leg pieces and one long support piece.

HomeMade ModernSTEP 2: Cut the notches in the stone.
I set my blade to the max depth and then cut notches in the legs and in the support piece so that they could fit together. I made a bunch of cuts and then used a cold chisel to break away the stone slivers in between.

HomeMade ModernSTEP 3: Assemble.
I did a quick test fit to make sure the pieces of stone fit level and then added some clear silicone type sealant in the cracks before the final fit. This isn't a construction adhesive it's just to keep the stone from grinding against itself. I want to be able to move the bench in pieces and that would be hard if it were glued together.

We also made a version that had a walnut wood support instead of a stone support.
